Barnstable Massachusetts Photos and Trivia

Hyannis and JFK

Barnstable, Massachusetts

Barnstable is made up of seven smaller villages. These are Hyannis, Centerville, Cotiut, Marstons Mills, Osterville, West Barnstable, and Barnstable. Of these, Hyannis is most famous for its connection with the Kennedy family.

Barnstable was incorporated in 1639 and is now a popular tourist destination. It's the launching point for ferries going to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

The Hyannis Harbor Light was built in 1849 and was one of a pair. This one was the "Rear Range" light. It is only 20 feet tall - barely bigger than the house next to it. It was deactivated in 1929 as the harbor filled in and was no longer used. This is now privately owned.
