Woods Hole and the Ferry to Martha's Vineyard

Many people know of Falmouth because of Woods Hole, the small area at the tip which contains a world-famous oceanographic institute. That was featured in Jaws :). Falmouth is also home of the Nobska Light. Falmouth was first incorporated in 1686.



The Nobska Light was first set up in 1826. It is still in operation and was automated in 1985. It's got a beautiful black spiral staircase within it. There's a keeper's house near it. The tower is 40 feet high. Its white light can reach 13 nautical miles.

Falmouth is where you get on the ferry to get over to Martha's Vineyard.

Actor Casey Affleck was born in Falmouth.
