Fishermen

Gloucester is a fishing town which has been featured in many movies and TV shows. The movie 'The Perfect Storm' was based on Gloucester fishermen. This town was founded in 1623. It is split in half by the Annisquam River.

The Annisquam Harbor Light was first built in 1801 as a wooden tower. In 1897 a brick version was built - this is what stands today. It was automated in 1974. It was featured in the movie "The Women" with Meg Ryan, although it was supposedly a lighthouse in Maine in that movie.

Actor Raymond Greenleaf was born in Gloucester.
