Plymouth Rock is a mainstay in American history courses. This is supposedly where the Pilgrims stepped foot onto North American soil back in 1620. Every year at Thanksgiving there are ceremonies held here.
The Plymouth Lighthouse is also known as the Gurnet Light. It was first built in 1768 and when that one burned down a fresh one was built in 1801. It was automated in 1986. It's an octagonal shape and is 102 feet tall. It's the oldest wooden lighthouse in the US.
Plagues brought by pre-Pilgrim settlers meant that up to 95% of the native Wampanoags were killed pre-arrival, meaning all their lands and fields were sitting there waiting to be taken over.
