Scituate Light

Scituate, Massachusetts

Scituate was initially settled by English in 1627. There's still a house there from 1634. There are two lighthouses located in Scituate. One is the Scituate Lighthouse, built in 1810. It was deactivated in 1850 when the Minot Ledge Lighthouse went into operation. However, it was lit again in 1994 as a private aid to navigation. The Scituate Lighthouse is famous because in 1814 a pair of girls played fife and drum loudly to pretend to be militia - their bold act scared off British soldiers.
