Springfield Education
Springfield College Springfield College is considered the birthplace of basketball. Founded in 1885, Springfield College focussed on an "all around education" - including arts, sciences, humanities, and physical activity. It's no surprise then that Dr. Naismith came up with the idea of basketball in 1891 as a way to enjoy a sport both indoor and outside. In fact, the person who invented volleyball - William G. Morgan - came from Springfield College as well.
Springfield College currently educates about 5,000 students each year, and has a number of locations in addition to their main one in Springfield, Massachusetts.
